Understanding Media’s Liberal Spin on Riots

Media’s Liberal spin on riots

The role that news media plays in society is huge. But have you ever thought how objective and fair the media is? Surveys have shown that the media channels have a liberal bias. The term liberal means an ideal and equal world in which we all are the same and have the same thinking. In this post, we will learn more about this and understand the liberal spin on riots.

Talking about the Los Angeles riots of the Spring of 92, the reporters did a good job of covering the situation. However, they then fell into their liberal tendency of favoring those with less and took a  liberal spin on riots. They saw it as a rebellion, uprising, and war when it was clearly a riot. They replaced the term theft with payday, where the looting was seen as goods for free. They called the looters opportunists, not thieves and labeled their greed a complex motive.

They called the rioters protesters when they were thugs and hooligans and said that they had nothing to lose when they lost stores, supermarkets, a library, electricity, and a post office. They portrayed that the insurance would pay for the damage when, in reality, the rates skyrocketed for some and got canceled for others.

They also supported the fact that it was the only way to get justice but ignored that businesses had to move out and property values went down. The media said that the protests sent a message when in reality, the rioters attacked news teams and shot at news copters. It was also noted that the protests were to get respect but ignored the attacks on supervisors, paramedics, and school buses.

They portrayed the rioters as those tired of prejudice but, in fact, did everything to increase it. We were told that riots don’t make it right but make it even, completely overlooking the fact that burning a neighborhood is not right and never the solution. It was also said that they protested racism. But they pulled non-blacks out of their cars and beat them senseless.

We could hear a lot about the rage of rioters and very little about the people who lost their jobs, homes, and stores or those whom the rioters beat. The riots were shown to be a matter of class and not race, implying that people experiencing poverty supported the riot when the majority of the people hated it since they were the ones who suffered the most.

Most people felt that the government did not owe the riot areas anything to rebuild, but the liberal media did. Most of the liberal media takes us down the path of guilt, promises, new social programs, and idealism. However, this seemed to fail and increased dependency, victim mentality, self-pity, and the chances of future riots.

To Conclude

Therefore it is time that we pay more attention to moderate journalists and leaders who channel unrest into legitimate forms of protest, like lawsuits, marches, boycotts, picketing, initiatives, recalls, and referendums. These people seek progress by avoiding charity, job quotas, preferential treatment and subsidies, and supporting work skills, business experience, education, workfare, sub-minimum wage, work at home, and traditional values.
