relatives, and nonprofessional staff. This would work toward a less mysterious and more common sensical approach than the hopeless merry‑go‑round we presently have.

Try to describe how there is no reasonable framework of responsible for all clients. re craziness, danger, maturity, etc. all is limbo. and ea word counts. this after the thing on tv about crazies who can’t be commited till they do something ‑ and then they kill.

‑ Each level (patients, relative, professional, and non‑professional) should regularly be rated by all the other levels and by 3rd parties. The ratings should affect the advance ment of each person, agency, and program. ‑ The mental health field should not violate common sense or society’s values.

‑ Patients should be confronted and gain privileges for accepting increasing levels of responsibility and lose privileges for not. ‑ Students of the field and prospective staff should be required to speak with a cross section of those in the field and those who have left it.

‑ Better records should be kept and should include imput from patients.

‑ Determine the extent of these behaviors present before the patients breakdown.

‑ Mental “hospitals” should be renamed “living schools” or whatever as patients are there to learn how to live.

‑ Half way houses should be set up at or near institutions as well as far from them. #

Mental Health ‑ flaws, recommendations

The field is not well‑defined, sensible, nor productive. Most adult They are indulged with endless analysis and not confronted. They have no incentive to get well. Most care homes “warehouse” them.

‑ The field should not violate common sense nor society’s values. like

‑ Patients should be held accountable for their behavior. They should gain privileges for accepting increasing levels of responsibility.

‑ Each level (patients, relatives, non‑professionals, mental health workers, and doctors) should be rated regularly by the other levels and by 3rd parties. The ratings should affect the advancement of each person, agency, and program.

‑ Advocacy groups for patients, relatives, and operators should be promoted – perhaps to counter the power of professionals.

‑ Students and prospective staff should be required to speak with a cross section of those who have left the field.

‑ Better records should be kept, reviewed regularly, and include input from patients.

/remember when at chestnut lodge, someone who worked there said that when Jan Foudraine of not made of wood guy was there, she saw people come alive.

JAN FOUDRAINE

Was born on the 25th February 1929 studied medicine at Leiden University, specialized in psychiatry and psychotherapy in Leiden and Amsterdam. From 1961 to 1966 staff psychiatrist at the psychoanalytical sanatorium ‘Chestnut Lodge’ (Rockville, Maryland, USA). From 1966 to 1968 clinical director of psychotherapeutic centre ‘Veluweland’ in the Netherlands. The book ‘Not made of wood a psychiatrist discovers his own profession’ was published in 1971. 200.000 copies sold, with 7 translations. It was recently (1999) reprinted, together with a new book ‘Bunkerbouwers’. Since meeting Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh in 1978, nine more books were published. Among them ‘Original Face’, ‘Bhagwan, Krishnamurti, Jung’, and recently ‘The man who dropped out of his mind, pointers of a rebellious mystic’. Conducted private psychotherapeutic practice in Amsterdam since 1978 until now.

Finding Purpose After Living With Delusion

By BENEDICT CAREY

Milt Greek, an Ohio computer programmer, helps other people who have been diagnosed with schizophrenia to share their stories and gain insight into their condition.

“Schizophrenia is the best thing that ever happened to me. I know a lot of people with the diagnosis don’t feel that way, but the experience changed me, for the better. I was so arrogant, so narcissistic, so self-involved, and it humbled me.”

/The Epidemic of Mental Illness: Why?” from The New York Review of Books. Many of us have been taught that depression arises, in part, from chemical imbalances in the brain. Apparently, there is no evidence to support that. Many of us thought that antidepressants work. Apparently, there is meager evidence to support that, too. They may work slightly better than placebos, Angell argues, but only under certain circumstances. They may also be permanently altering people’s brains and unintentionally fueling the plague of mental illness by causing episodes of mania,

Stupid add on to ga:

Unlike physical ailments, mental disorders get neglected very easily. It is only when one sees drastic changes in one’s behavioral pattern, that these issues come into notice.

There can be multiple reasons affecting your health such as genes (family history of mental health problems), brain chemistry, trauma, abuse etc.

It is important to get acquainted with early signs of such mental disturbances like – eating/sleeping too much or too little, remaining isolated, having low or no energy, feeling numb, feeling despair, having mood swings, indulging excessively into smoking, drinking, drugs, hearing voices or believing things that are not true, feelings of self harm, feeling incapable of performing day to day activities etc.

Such people need to be treated by a certified professional therapist which would help them in realizing their full potential. A therapist would guide the concerned person as to how he can cope up with stress and negative feelings, work productively and make a difference to other people’s lives. He would be guided towards an optimistic life approach where there is more of social engagement and less of seclusion.

Any person can become a victim of a mental disorder. It is essential to test your mental health which would put light on your life and your perspective towards the various facets of life. Follow these links to assess your mental abilities. #
